Rihanna to Release New Song, ‘Friend of Mine,’ This Friday
A snippet arrived via a trailer for ‘Smurfs,’ in which she’ll voice Smurfette.

New Rihanna music is on the way—just not from the source you’d probably expect.
The singer teased a new song, “Friend of Mine,” which will be featured on the upcoming Smurfs movie soundtrack, in a new trailer for the film.
Rihanna told fans to pre-save the song in multiple social media posts. It was announced in 2023 that the “Work” singer would voice the iconic Smurfette in the hybrid live-action-and-animated movie.
In the new trailer, Rihanna’s voice can be heard repeating the phrase “You feel like a friend of mine” as a group of Smurfs, including Smurfette, party and dance in sync to the track. You only get a snippet of the music before the it gets cut by Smurf DJs.

In addition to “Friend of Mine,” Rihanna will sing a few more songs for soundtrack, including a cover of Belinda Carlisle’s 1987 classic “Heaven Is a Place on Earth.”
“Getting to do animation is a fun journey for me,” Rihanna told a crowd at CinemaCon in 2023. “I’m usually front and center with everything with my likeness…but this was fun. I got to imagine, I got to show up in my pajamas in my third trimester and be a blue badass. I hope this gives me a little bit of cool points with my kids one day.”
Since her last studio album, Anti, in 2016, Rihanna has only appeared on a handful of songs, including DJ Khaled’s “Wild Thoughts” and two from the Black Panther: Wakanda Forever soundtrack. The end of the Smurfs trailer also promises music from Desi Trill, DJ Khaled, Cardi B, Natania, Subhi, and Tyla. The movie is due out July 18.
Rihanna recently attended the Met Gala, showing off her baby bump in custom Marc Jacobs. This will be her third child with boyfriend A$AP Rocky.
