Fergie Baby Floats Over a 101-Year-Old Sample on ‘Public Domain’

DJ Kanai and Kajun dig for the loop and lace the beat.

Most of the time, it takes a minute for any producer to find the right sample. On the latest episode of Public Domain, the Type.Set.Brooklyn original series, the Bronx’s DJ Kanai and L.A.'s Kajun dig through a collection of tracks before landing on “La Rosita,” performed by Earl Hamilton in 1924, and its ominous piano. The loop turns into the right soundscape for Harlem’s Fergie Baby to hop on.
