How Mk.gee Inspired Dior’s New Menswear Collection
Just like the rest of us, Jonathan Anderson is mk.geeked out.

Paris is in full motion as the city’s Fashion Week kicks off. And Dior’s latest menswear show stood apart from the usual spectacle. For creative director Jonathan Anderson’s second outing at the house, the runway became a study in character, contradiction, and mood. And apparently at the center of it all was Mk.gee, whose music and personal style helped shape the collection.
Models stepped out in bright yellow wigs and spiked hair. There were cropped jackets, parkas, bombers unfurled into capes, and rigid ideas of masculinity softened into something fluid and strange.
Tracks like “Rockman” and “Alesis” filled the space, but Mk.gee’s presence went far beyond the playlist. Backstage, Anderson made it clear the New Jersey-born musician, whose real name is Michael Gordon, was part of the show’s conceptual DNA.

“I’d met this amazing singer and musician called Mk.gee,” Anderson told Vogue. “I was trying to work out what these characters would be together, as a new radical.”
He described being drawn to Gordon’s quiet aura when they met in LA.
“He had on the puffer and another puffer layered and a leaner silhouette on the bottom, but kind of a shyness to him, which I found really kind of introverted,” Anderson said. "And ultimately the way in which I work is collecting all these different experiences throughout the process and then kind of infiltrating them in.”
Mk.gee’s breakout album, Two Star & The Dream Police, introduced the “Two Star” persona that blurs the line between Gordon and an alter ego. During this era, Gordon’s loose wardrobe made the character stand out. He often wore multiple layers of jackets, hats, and always let his shaggy hair be a little bit of a mess.

This isn’t Gordon’s first time shaping a runway, either. Mike performed songs from Two Star live at Jil Sander’s Fall/Winter 2024 show in Milan. Looking ahead a bit, could Mike one day become an ambassador for the brand? Only time will tell.
