Here’s Why Megan Thee Stallion Creating Her Own Anime Makes Total Sense
The Houston rapper announced the series—developed alongside ‘Boondocks’ alum Carl Jones—at Dream Con.

Megan Thee Stallion isn’t just a hot girl. She’s a full-blown anime heroine to some, and now she’s turning her love for the genre it into a new television series, she announced over the weekend at Dream Con, the convention that brings lovers of gaming, anime, sports, and pop culture together for three day of nerding out.
“I’m about to come out with my own anime,” said Megan, dressed as Yoruichi Shihōin from the series Bleach, during her Q+A session with gamer Briana Williams, . “It’s going to be on Amazon Prime. It’s lit. That’s the exclusive for the Houston hotties.”
Even though she offered no other details about when it would drop or what the series would be about, she did confirm Carl Jones, a producer on Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim series The Boondocks, will be involved.
“Shoutout to him, because we really did our thing,” she said. “We took a long time putting this together, and it’s finally coming, so you can only imagine how we coming with this anime. Megan Thee Stallion and Carl Jones. What the hell?”
“You ain’t never seen an anime like this ever in your life,” she promised the roaring crowd.
While the announcement took many by surprise, Megan is hardly new to anime. She’s name-dropped characters in her music and has been known cosplay as them, too. Here’s everything you need to know about Megan being the biggest and hottest anime fan there is.
Why does she love anime?
In an interview with Billboard in 2024, Megan went into depth about what exactly pulls her to anime, saying she connects to the storytelling and the characters.
“I like is watching the character development—seeing the character go from nothing to everything,” she said. "When I feel like I’m getting beat up in life, I remember some of my favorite characters. I see that they had to go from literally zero and getting their ass whooped in their training. Even when they start popping and getting their muscles—because you know they be skinny as hell, then they start getting a little ripped—even when you start seeing the character getting a little swole, you like, ‘All right, he’s going to defeat all you motherfuckers. It’s over with’.”
“I resonate with that,” she continued. “No matter how many times I get knocked down, I never feel like, ‘Fuck it, Imma quit.’ I just need to get better. I need to get back, try again, train harder and go harder, so I can keep evolving into my best self.”
What are her favorite anime series?
While replying to fans' comments for GQ, she was asked what kind of anime she watches.
“I love My Hero Academia. I love Attack on Titan. I love Bleach. Of course, I love Naruto,” she said. “I’m watching Black Butler right now. I’m watching Black Clover too. I like Soul Eater—that one was fire."
“I just watch a lot of anime.”
When has she referenced characters in her music?
Megan regularly laces her lyrics with slick nods to some of the genre’s biggest and baddest characters. In her song “Otaku Hot Girl,” she goes full Jujutsu Kaisen with lines like, “Can’t touch me, like Gojo” and “Fighting demons in my head like I’m Itadori." Apparently she even sampled the commercial break music from the series for extra flair.
In her GloRilla collab “Wanna Be,” she growls, “I’m the female titan, I’m steppin’ on bitches,” referencing the series Attack on Titan. And let’s not forget her bar from “Running Up Freestyle" when she says, “When I switch my hair to blonde, I’m finna turn up like Goku," because who doesn’t know iconic character from our favorite Saturday morning cartoon?
What characters has she cosplayed as?
How much time do you really have? There’s been reference after reference, with Meg paying tribute to characters on red carpets, on magazine covers, and in music videos. She’s gone full “Sailor Hottie” as Sailor Moon, complete with twin buns and moon wand. She then bodied Todoroki from My Hero Academia, turning his split-colored angst into a fire-and-ice thirst trap on the cover of Paper Magazine. And let’s not forget her ode to JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, when she hit the red carpet at the 2024 Crunchyroll Anime Awards in a look inspired by the character Bruno Bucciarati. Her video and single cover for her song “Boa” are practically tributes to the series One Piece. Meg references character Boa Hancock’s famous two-tier haircut and serpent scepter throughout the clip.
