Lorde’s New Album ‘Virgin’ Is on the Way
The follow-up to 2021’s ‘Solar Power’ will arrive in late June.

Lorde is so back.
Just days after dropping her first solo single in four years, the nostalgic “What Was That,” last week, Lorde announced her new album, Virgin, is also on the way.
The “Royals” artist posted what seems to be an X-ray imageof a pelvis with a one-word caption, “Virgin," on Wednesday.
She confirmed the album’s title in a press release, along with some context around the inspiration and the release date.
“The colour of the album is clear. Like bathwater, windows, ice, spit. Full transparency. The language is plain and unsentimental,” she said. “The sounds are the same wherever possible. I was trying to see myself, all the way through. I was trying to make a document that reflected my femininity: raw, primal, innocent, elegant, openhearted, spiritual, masc.”
She continued: “I’m proud and scared of this album. There’s nowhere to hide. I believe that putting the deepest parts of ourselves to music is what sets us free. Coming June 27.”
Lorde’s been teasing this new chapter all month and made an appearance at Washington Square Park in New York City to debut “What Was That” to an excited crowd of fans. That performance was then used in the official music video for the song.
Virgin follows her 2021 album, Solar Power. Since then, Lorde’s mostly been low key, only popping out last year for the remix of Charli XCX’s “Girl, So Confusing,” a song Charli wrote about the tension between the two. The pop stars performed the song earlier this month at Coachella.
