The Labubu craze has hit a new plateau.

A life-size version of the scary-toothed toy sold for about $170,000 at an auction in China this week, NBC News reports, highlighting just how much the popularity of the Gremlin-esque creature has exploded in recent months.

The event, organized by Yongle Auction, took place in Beijing on Tuesday, with hundreds of people crowding into a room for a chance to buy a four-foot-tall mint-green doll.

“The atmosphere was warm, and nearly a thousand collectors participated in the bidding online and offline,” the auction house said in a statement. “In the end, the auction was successfully concluded with a 100% transaction rate, a total transaction volume of 3.7254 million yuan, and won the ‘white glove’ honor, which also demonstrated the market’s recognition and enthusiastic pursuit of trendy art.”

For the uninitiated, Labubu, a grinning character from the Hong Kong-based art toy brand Pop Mart, originated as part of Kasing Lung’s The Monsters children’s book series. Introduced in blind-box collections, the creepy-cute Labubu has caught on widely. It’s gone viral on TikTok, with influencers and creators unboxing theirs, and drawn long lines for drops.

Yongle Auction said it will be hosting more Labubu-focused auctions “regularly.” Hide your wallets.
