The Weeknd’s new movie, Hurry Up Tomorrow, tanked at the box office, bringing in just around $3.3 million (against a reported budget of $15 million), according to Box Office Mojo. Though the film’s been panned by critics and isn’t doing the best commercially, it has successfully done one thing: gone viral on TikTok.

Well, at least one scene has.

The movie sees The Weeknd playing a fictionalized version of himself (even named Abel) on the precipice of a breakdown. He becomes involved with a crazed fan, played by Jenna Ortega, whom—as the scene that’s taking over everyone’s For You Page shows—he tries to leave in a hotel room. Ortega’s character is baffled at the attempt, and an argument ensues.

Overwhelmed by her shouting, The Weeknd hilariously shouts back, “Shut the fuck up!”

“What are you doing? What the fuck are you doing?” he asks. “I have to go right now. I’m getting calls. I have to catch a flight. I’m on a tour. I’m trying to be fucking nice. You see I’m trying to be nice right now? You’re forcing me to be bad.”

The unintentionally humorous scene was inescapable on TikTok over the weekend, racking up millions of likes and hundreds of reactions as users parodied it.

In a caption beneath one video, TikTok user @lily9ads said, “Abel please be serious 💔,” while others commented, “Jenna wasnt acting she was just genuinely in disbelief of how bad his acting was.”

User @unemploymentceo called the scene some “Disney channel ass acting 😭“ before stitching it to a clip from The Summer I Turned Pretty

The Weeknd played a cult leader on HBO’s The Idol in 2023. The series was canceled after one season.
