Doechii Responds to Met Gala Backlash: ‘God Forbid a Girl Needs More Umbrellas’
The ‘Alligator Bites Never Heal’ artist addressed the diva talk.

Doechii responded to the internet backlash about her being a diva behind the scenes of her Met Gala debut in a TikTok video posted Wednesday.
The “Anxiety” artist tied her reply to the “God forbid” trend, saying, “God forbid a girl needs more umbrellas,” followed by an umbrella and laughing face emoji. She also wrote in the caption to the video, “All jokes aside this was such an overstimulating night but I wouldn’t trade it for the world! This was the night we all dreamed of and my team killed it (umbrellas aside) 😭🥴.”

Doechii was filmed shouting to her team as they were leaving a hotel to get to the Met Gala on Monday night. In the video Doechii can be heard behind a large cube curtain box telling her team to get another umbrella to cover her outfit. It was raining all day Monday.
“Get me another umbrella now,” she said in the video. “I need more fucking umbrellas.”
Social media users were quick to call her a diva, while some defended her actions.
“Can’t even pretend to care about that Doechii situation bc I grew up watching Gordan Ramsay call ppl a waste of space over some steak. her yelling about an umbrella ain’t nothing fr,” X user @duskgumi posted.

Doechii further clarified her position in her Instagram story, writing, “All jokes aside I’m so so so proud of my glam team and the LV team for an incredible night! We’ve been dreaming about this Met for a long time and the theme this year is in such alignment with who I am what I stand for. It’s nothing but God that this year was our debut. Everyone killed it. We nailed the theme. And a time was had.”
Doechii rocked the blue carpet in a cream two-piece patterned suit from Louis Vuitton. She paired that with dark red thigh-high boots, an afro, and a cigar as an accessory.
