Denzel Washington Says He’s a Samara Cyn Fan: ‘That’s What I’m on Now’
Denzel spoke on the rising rapper, along with his ‘Highest 2 Lowest’ co-star ASAP Rocky, in a new interview.

Denzel Washington revealed in an interview with Good Morning America that he, like many of us, is also a fan of up-and-coming artist Samara Cyn.
The movie star is in the middle of promoting his new Spike Lee-directed movie, Highest 2 Lowest, and when asked if he’s a big fan of hip-hop, he said that he’s been heavily Samara’s her music—particularly her song “Brand New Teeth” with Smino.
“I’m a big fan of music. I’m on Samara Cyn right now,” he told the panel of anchors, including Michael Strahan and Robin Roberts. “Y’all up on Samara Cyn ‘Brand New Teeth’? That’s what I’m on now. [It’s] with Smino.”
Based on their reactions, it’s fair to say the co-hosts had no clue who he was talking about, but to their credit, they seemed interested in familiarizing themselves with Samara’s catalog.
They wouldn’t be the only ones. The rising rapper’s been on a lot of people’s radars after gaining a bunch of attention online for how she sounds like a mix between Tyler, the Creator and Doja Cat. She was recently selected for XXL’s Freshman Class cover.
Samara posted a video of Denzel’s comments to her Instagram story, writing, “dying happy,” alongside some crying-face emojis.

Denzel also spoke about his Highest 2 Lowest co-star ASAP Rocky, saying he didn’t spend a lot of time with him while filming the movie but that their time on the promo run for it helped him understand why Rihanna’s with him.
“[He’s] an amazing young man,” he said. “Intelligent. I was like, ‘Oh, OK, Rihanna. I see. He’s catching me up.”
Ice Spice also makes her acting debut in Highest 2 Lowest. The movie drops Sept. 5 on Apple TV+.
