Seems like Charli XCX will have a cinephile summer.

While she’s just kicked off her Brat tour earlier this month, Variety reports that the “Apple” singer will star in and produce an upcoming movie with Japanese filmmaker Takashi Miike. No word yet on what the title of the project is, what it’s about, who else has been casted, or when it’ll be released though. While those details aren’t available yet, Variety says Ross Evans will pen the screenplay.

Though she found massive commercial and culture success with her sixth studio Brat, it seems as though Charli’s focus over the last several months has been movies over music. The Miike announcement makes this the eighth film Charli has in production.

She’s expected to appear in a slew of films including The Moment, 100 Nights of Hero, Erupcja, a Faces of Death remake, I Want Your Sex, and a thrilled called The Gallerist.

Whew!

In addition to the movie roles, she’ll also appear as herself in Prime Video’s new series Overcompensating

Though she’s booked and busy with movie roles, Charli recently teased, via TikTok, the idea of prolonging “Brat summer,”

“It’s really hard to let go of Brat and let go of this thing that is so inherently me and become my entire life,“ she said in the clip. “And I started thinking about culture and the kind of ebbs and flows, the lifespan of things, and how when you get a level of success, you can kind of become oversaturated.”

Charli says she’s a believer in the idea of artists taking some time away from the spotlight after achieving major success.

“But I'm also interested in the tension of staying too long,” she confesses. “I find that quite fascinating, and what that does. Obviously, it‘s hard to just be like, OK, it’s over now. I kind of want it to go on and on and on, because it is who I am.”
