Chappell Roan Is Staying Offline for Her New Album: ‘Socials Harm the F*ck Out of My Art’
The project, she says, “is purely, only mine.”

Fresh off the release of her new single “The Subway,” Chappell Roan opened up in a new Vogue interview about what’s next and what isn’t.
First, maybe because of her rising profile, Roan is scaling back online.
“Socials harm the fuck out of me and my art,” she said. “I’m not doing that to myself anymore.”
For what she says is the first time, she’s creating music without the gaze of social media.
“I’ve never written an album where I don’t have Instagram or anything,” she says. “The album process is purely, only mine. No one on TikTok gets to see it.”

While some fans may have been hoping her latest release signaled the start of a project, Roan was quick to shut that down.
“There is no album,” Roan stated bluntly. “There is no collection of songs.”
She continued : “It took me five years to write the first one, and it’s probably going to take at least five to write the next. I’m not that type of writer that can pump it out. I don’t think I make good music whenever I force myself to do anything. I see some comments sometimes, like, ‘She’s everywhere except that damn studio.’ Even if I was in the studio 12 hours a day, every single day, that does not mean that you would get an album any faster.”
@nssmagazine “Someone is leaving their hair on my fire escape.” In recent weeks, Chappell Roan has been teasing her upcoming single The Subway throughout the streets of New York City, with its official release set for this Friday. Roan co-wrote “The Subway” with frequent collaborator Dan Nigro and had teased the song through live performances since last year. Now officially out, it’s on track to debut on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart.
We’ll just have to wait for Ms. Roan’s album. She'll get there when she gets there.
