Cardi B Says America ‘Is in a Very Bad Place’: ‘We Have Been Involved in Something Morally Illegal’
The “Outside” delivers blunt thoughts about the country in a new interview.

Cardi B has never shied away from speaking her mind, whether about music, motherhood, or messy politics. In a new interview with Billboard, the “Outside” rapper kept things broad but blunt when asked about the state of America, saying the country “is in a very bad place.”
“Because we have been involved in something morally illegal, morally that God hates, morally that is disgusting,” she said. “I’m not going to speak about it. Y’all should know why. All I’m going to say is we’re going to be paying for a very long time because there’s no bigger leader than God. We’ve been doing immoral stuff. We’ve been supporting and endorsing immoral, evil things. Not one person is going to pay for it; the whole country is going to pay for it.”
While she didn’t name names, her comments are widely believed to reference the recent wave of ICE raids that have unlawfully deported immigrants. It’s not a stretch. Cardi has long used her platform to speak on political issues, especially around marginalized communities.
“You always have to be aware of what’s happening to the world and what’s happened before, because things really do repeat themselves,” she said in the same interview. “Maybe not something drastic like a world war, slavery or the Holocaust, but there’s always shady shit going on.”
Still, for every heavy political reflection, Cardi also delivers comedy. She recently walked away victorious in a civil lawsuit tied to a 2018 OBGYN visit, where a former security guard accused her of assault. The jury wasn’t buying it, siding with Cardi and clearing her name.
Never one to waste a moment, Cardi leaned right into the drama, turning her many meme-able courtroom expressions into alternate album covers for her upcoming project Am I the Drama?
“I did not touch that woman,” she declared after the trial, before warning any future opportunists about trying their luck, saying if they thought about bringing a frivolous lawsuit against her, she would make “make you pay.”
“Because this is not OK.”
