The National Football League fined the Atlanta Falcons and one of its coaches a total of $350,000 for their role in a prank call that involved Shedeur Sanders, ESPN reports.

The Falcons will have to shell out $250,000, while the coach, Jeff Ulbrich, will have to pay $100,000. Jeff’s son, 21-year-old Jax Ulbrich, made the call, pretending to be an official from the New Orlean Saints interested in drafting Sanders. The entire interaction was caught on camera and even filmed by Ulbrich and his friends.

"My actions of not protecting confidential data were inexcusable," Jeff Ulbrich said at a press conference addressing the incident. “My son’s actions were absolutely inexcusable, and for that we are both deeply sorry.”

Jax Ulbrich apologized in an Instagram post on Sunday.

“What I did was completely inexcusable, embarrassing, and shameful,” he wrote. “I’m so sorry I took away from your moment, it was selfish and childish.”

The Falcons released a statement on Sunday condemning the call and said Jax swiped Sanders number from Jeff’s iPad while visiting his parents’ house. They said Jeff didn’t know about the incident until afterwards.

“The Atlanta Falcons do not condone this behavior and send our sincere apologies to Shedeur Sanders and his family, who we have been in contact with to apologize to, as well as facilitate an apology directly from Jax to the Sanders family,” the organization said in the statement. "We are thoroughly reviewing all protocols, and updating if necessary, to help prevent an incident like this from happening again.”

Sanders seemed mostly unbothered by the situation when asked by reporters in Cleveland, according to ESPN

“It didn’t really have an impact on me,” he said. “I feel like it was a childish act, but everybody does childish things here and there.”
